Amager Lambert van Haven

Lambert Van Haven was always a cool kid, although his classmates found him a little odd and distant. Lambert was not the playful type, but preferred to sit by himself with his sketch pad and a piece of charcoal in his hand. He didn't need a subject in front of him - everything that ended up on his pad was born in his imagination. And the ideas that sprang from this young gentleman's mind were grand. His classmates would see images of amazing ballrooms, a church altar like nothing the world had ever seen before, or castles that made Versailles look like a modest garden shack, when they finally talked him into showing them his work. His talent didn't go unnoticed, since even king Christian the 5th heard of Lambert's unusual talents and appointed him Royal Building Master at the tender age of 23. Lambert scored big time with the ladies on this, and when he was told that he could travel indefinitely to courts all over Europe seeking inspiration with all expenses paid for by the king, well he didn't exactly miss out on female companionship. For 16 years he traveled, and when he returned he was made Denmark's first General Building Master ever, introducing the baroque building style to the Court. And boy, did Lambert deliver. Among his best known pieces was the old Nørreport city gate, considered the tallest and finest of Copenhagen's city gates, and situated pretty much exactly where you find Amager Bryghus Taproom Nørreport today. We find it only fitting that the official one-year anniversary beer for Taproom Nørreport is named after Lambert.
