Harbour Last of Summer Lager

The idea for a lager imbided with the zest of summer was born when uncovering the brewery herb garden. There, in the twilight of summer, were long stems of lemon verbena and pineapple sage, in vibrant shades of green and gold. The lemon verbena was reminiscent of sherbert lemons, whilst the more subtle pineapple sage had the texture of nectarine and the refreshment of a long cold cooler on a sunny beach.
At Harbour, we’re really proud of our lagers. The spring water we use is wonderfully soft – the perfect palate for crisp and lemon-y lagers. With a Helles and a Pilsner in our portfolio already, the malt fullness of a Vienna lager is the naturally complement. Vienna malt gives a wonderful fullness whilst retaining the lightness of character in a lager – the perfect way to build substance but not risk overwhelming the herbaceous notes from the herb garden.
With a snip of Saaz hop, we’ve kept the basics of this beer very traditional to the lager credentials of central Europe, but with lemon freshness of the herbs, it was too irresistible not to complement those notes with a touch of Motueka hops at the end of fermentation.
